LucidSound LS50X – An understated headset

Today we're going to take a closer look at an officially licensed Xbox wireless headset: the LucidSound LS50X. This new helmet from the manufacturer's range is one of the brand's top-of-the-range models and it offers many features that we will discover throughout this article.

Packaging et design

The packaging of the LucidSound L50X is quite impressive and, upon unboxing, you immediately feel the notion of high-end. In addition to the classic box where we find the different visuals and information/promises of the product, we are first dealing with another very refined cardboard box with the brand's logo where other brands will simply put their product in one of the most classic thermoforming. But that's not all, the helmet comes with a rigid transport box where the helmet fits very well with the various accessories that can be used with it. Looking at the brand's other products/tests, the majority of products come with this type of product or a padded bag. A real good point for people who want to take care of their equipment by avoiding leaving it lying around on a table or other when it is not in use.

As for the packaging, the design of the helmet is also very refined by being entirely black and gray, the colors of the brand. The only touch of color to note will be that of the removable microphone socket, the interior of which is orange (so only you are aware). I really liked this minimalist / modern side where there is no excess in the design, and it will also make the headphones go anywhere while combining wonderfully well with any piece of furniture or setup. .

Quality, comfort and functionality

Let's start with the quality of the product and its assembly. First of all, the arch, in metal, runs entirely through the structure of the helmet while making the outline of the headphones. Regarding the plastics, especially those for enlarging/reducing the size of the headband, they are of good quality and the overall assembly of the helmet does not suffer from any real defect. However, some small things can be disturbing, such as this feeling of friction on the ear cups or a kind of rigidity in the swiveling of the headphones at 90 degrees. On this point, I have seen on some forums that it was advisable to loosen the screws of the arch a little to solve this problem. It also allowed me to discover that the helmet is easily removable with interchangeable foam earphones. When I look at the state of the foams of my daily helmet, this possibility of quick disassembly for changing or cleaning is more than welcome.

Even if the headband is made of metal and therefore offers a certain rigidity, the comfort is no less comfortable. It should be noted that for a wearer of glasses, I did not experience any discomfort either after several hours of play whereas, on other headsets which are often very tight to fit the ear well, it can become very quickly the opposite (I had the case for example on several Sony headphones). According to the various technical data, the foam of the headphones contains a layer of gel as well as another layer with shape memory, which again provides a most pleasant feeling when wearing the helmet (the helmet breathes better than a faux leather helmet).

Under the left earphone, there are three ports corresponding respectively to a port for a jack, another to connect the removable microphone and the third for a micro USB recharge (Type C connector). On this same headset, we will find the power button as well as the volume and functionality controls in play (sound off, change of mode between Bluetooth and “game” mode). The other headset will only have features to offer, in particular the one allowing the opening/closing of the microphone (microphone on/off) or the features dedicated to music. We find for example the change of music track on the fly but especially different modes of equalizer made by the manufacturer to be in agreement with the use of the helmet. I was able to test the Bass Boost or Signature Sound mode, for example, and the additions or the emulation between these modes are really stunning, the overall rendering of the headphones proving to be really qualitative.

Even if the headset is stamped Xbox, it is quite possible to use it in other areas thanks to its connectivity. The headset has wireless connectivity either by its USB dongle (PC/Xbox) or by simple Bluetooth (mobile phone for example). On the wired side, the headset has a 3.5mm jack connectivity that is quite classic for the majority of audio devices. You should also know that there are no additional applications to install on your device to take advantage of your device and its additional features.

Conclusion

The LucidSound LS50X has many qualities, whether in terms of audio or comfort. The compatibility with devices without overlay is really significant and the different features on the sides of the helmet to make adjustments on the fly are most significant (especially that of the equalizer). On the look side, the sobriety is a plus for me to stand out for example from certain models like the Artic where the majority of the colors are very shiny (even the black).

In the negative points, we will retain the rigidity which can be really annoying for some people, even if simple alternatives are there to correct this problem. And above all, remains the price which is quite important for a helmet if it is only used for gaming. For my part, it replaced my two headphones, one of which I used for gaming (Console and PC) and the other during my daily journeys.

You can find this product on sites like Amazon around 200/250 euros
