Gamescom 2022: our favorites

By reviewing all the articles on gamescom written by our shock team on site, I noted as I discovered the games that I liked, that I wanted to discover more. It then occurred to me to ask the entire editorial staff which games had marked their minds. Let's discover them without further delay!

Azashar

  • Terra Nil - A management/construction game, with the environment changing according to our actions, it promises to be good!
  • Mato Anomalies – The game looks very intriguing, which mixes RPG and investigation. I hope we will soon have a release date and a little more gameplay!
  • Sengoku Dynasty – A kind of medieval dynasty, but in the universe of feudal Japan! To see what it will give as soon as we have a little more gameplay to put in our mouths.
  • Pharaoh: A New Era – I spent dozens and dozens of hours on the original game in the 90s, so obviously, this new version interests me the most!

  • floodland
  • High on Life
  • land nil

We had a choice this year at the GC for city-builders, and Terra Nil will not have left us indifferent. It is found in clamoune's favorites with a competitor: Floodland.

Dheuz

  • Pharaoh: A New Era
  • land nil
  • steelrising
  • School of Magic

If all these titles caught the attention of Dheuz, it is undoubtedly the remake of Pharaoh He is looking forward to it! “Too much played when I was younger”.

Pharaoh: A New Era

Eledhwen

Like Dheuz, Eled' can't wait to be able to try the remake of Pharaoh, but not only.

  • Lies of P
Lying has never hurt so much. A new interpretation of the famous Pinocchio. He's back, and he's not happy. Ambiance and dynamic gameplay make me look forward to this game!
  • Atlas Fall
The game looks great, and seems to have a bit of a God of war feel to it. Can't wait to see more gameplay footage.
  • Pharaoh: A New Era
So much memories ! Pharaoh a new Era is a remake of a game released in 1999 Pharaoh. I spent many hours playing this game and it will be a pleasure to dive back into it. Little anecdote, I found a copy of this game at home in a blister!
  • evil west
Seeing Evil West and the possibility of co-op play made me think of Remnant From the Ashes, which I loved making with friends, to follow closely!
  • Honkai: Star Rail
Another big piece announced with Honkai: Star Rail. I played a little bit of Honkai Impact, and a lot of Genshin Impact. The turn-by-turn aspect appeals to me and I'm curious to see what it will look like in the Honkai universe.

A little treasure in Eledhwen's collection

the Raven

Gavran will cite a single title: Lies of P. Not surprising when you know that Bloodborne is one of his favorite games. The very promising and disturbing universe means that Lies of P will surely be day one in his hands!

Julian

System Shock's remake is Juliaan's favourite: “A big name in the JV, can't wait to learn more about this remake and see if it will live up to its illustrious ancestor”.

Kathleen

I had a hard time narrowing down my list. I had 8 games at the base, I removed 2 and I am unable to do better!

  • blacktail
Although the first person view bothers me a little, I completely fell for the synopsis of Blacktail! Fingers crossed the gameplay is up my alley
  • Terra Nil et Floodland
Impossible to decide between the two city-builders, so much their concept attracts me! The beauty and poetry of Terra Nil on one side, the post-apo world of Floodland on the other.
  • Wildmender
Intrigued by its presentation, I downloaded the demo on Steam, this preview of the pre-alpha version looks very promising! This game focused on agriculture rather than pure construction has a beautiful universe and innovative gameplay. I will definitely follow his news.
  • Stranded Alien Dawn
Just like Onidra, I was charmed by the concept of this survival game: this time we manage a team that we choose and whose behavior has a direct impact on the course of the adventure. I want a demo!
  • Diluvian Winds
You manage an inn which could be a Noah's ark since the animals come to take refuge there, fleeing the deluge and the rising waters. The style of the game and its gameplay immediately reminded me of Spellcaster Academy on which I spent quite a few hours.

Kyotenshi

If we find Lies of P without surprise, the other titles cited by Kyo show his eclectic tastes.

  • Lies of P
Thanks to its intriguing universe, its striking Victorian-era art direction and its extremely promising gameplay, Lies of P has become in a few days one of the titles I'm most looking forward to in the coming years. If someone had told me that one day Pinocchio would be a badass character, I would never have believed it!
  • A Plague Tale: Requiem
Test transformed with this second opus of A Plague Tale, which promises to be even more moving, adventurous and exciting than its predecessor. Hugo is still touching, and Amicia seems to have matured, keeping that touch of fragility that characterizes a heroine like no other.
  • Planet of lana
Already convinced by the first trailers, the first grip with Planet of Lana convinced me of the potential of the title. A shimmering universe and a duo of endearing characters promise an adventure that is not necessarily original in its unfolding, but filled with a poetry that we rarely see.
  • The last worker
I love committed games, and The Last Worker is definitely one, and it tackles a big chunk. The writing seems as funny as it is fair and the gameplay does not seem to be outdone, even if, narrative adventure requires, we will remain faced with a relatively simple title to take in hand.

2 favorites for the chef:

  • Stranded Alien Dawn
  • steelrising

And since she tested both, you can find out why by reading her previews!

sodzounet

Sodz' contacted us with a great list!

  1.  I would say Foretales, a game that seemed to me quite successful and very interesting in terms of mechanics, atmosphere, story and characters that we meet. A very good surprise, with a full preview coming soon!
  2. Serial Cleaner - Completely quirky, playing a cleaner for the mafia who has to play it undercover or run frantic races to avoid getting caught is a fun and completely wacky game.
  3. Miasma Chronicles - Far from being a genre revolution, the design is very fine, the characters are endearing, and the gameplay promises to be quite clean. Although I have only been able to play it very little, I have high hopes for this game.
  4.  War Hospital - Quite complete in its genre and very detailed, you have to manage a military hospital under pressure and difficult choices. A good idea, a good realization and a good neat job give us a recipe for a game that really marked me.

Conclusion

Do we do the accounts? A few titles have been named multiple times, so let's see which ones!

Terra Nil, Pharaoh: A New Era and Lies of P have been nominated 3 times.
The city builder with its innovative concept and its soothing graphics will have conquered more than one editor! The Pharaoh remake plays the nostalgia chord and it works well. Finally Souls-like fans are not lacking in our ranks and it was almost logical to find Lies of P here.

2 nominations pour Stranded Alien Dawn et Steelrising.
The first dusts off the survival style while the second will (still) delight souls-like fans.

Finally, we undoubtedly have very eclectic tastes in writing. Find below the list of all named games, in alphabetical order:

  • A Plague Tale: Requiem
  • Atlas Fall
  • blacktail
  • Diluvian Winds
  • evil west
  • floodland
  • Pretend
  • High on Life
  • Honkai: Star Rail
  • Kill Anomalies
  • Planet of lana
  • Sengoku Dynasty
  • Serial cleaners
  • School of Magic
  • System Shock
  • The last worker
  • War Hospital
  • Wildmender
