My Time at Sandrock – Construction in the middle of the desert

My Time at Sandrock is a game published and developed by Pathea Games. Still in early access, it is nevertheless available since May 26. This game takes you to the city of Sandrock, a desert town. You are a young builder, so you will have to help your new town grow. You will have to rebuild your workshop and make it grow to save the city of Sandrock. As you will have understood, My Time at Sandrock is a construction game. Kind of game that I really like because it's quite chill. I hadn't played My Time at Portia, but during this test I bought it on Switch, so I'll be able to compare the two games a bit. Let's go, construction!

So I arrive by train in the town of Sandrock where I meet Yan who is going to be my boss in a way. He will explain to me that I am there to replace the old constructor. My first mission is to design an elevator that will allow me to descend into the mines. We will see later that these will become very important because they will allow me to collect precious resources. I also learn of the presence of a certain bandit named Logan who is rampant in the region.

The game is mainly about collecting basic resources. Then, with these resources, you will have to build machines that will allow you to create other resources. Obviously not everything is available at the beginning. You will have to unlock the building plans or buy them if they are available for sale. There are even some that you will have to unlock at the scientist against data discs. You can also build decorative objects such as furniture for example. But some items cannot be harvested or crafted. To get them, you will have to go through trade. And for that, you will need money.

The money can be collected in several ways: either by carrying out the main quest which is to rebuild the village of Sandrock as well as possible. Either by carrying out missions given to your guild, you can do one per day. And they will allow you to climb the rankings, but I'll tell you about that right after. Either by selling what you harvest or by crafting. For the moment I have not needed to go through this method but I am someone who takes his time so I do not rush the game.

I was telling you about a ranking, this ranking rewards the best builders in the guild. Each month the ranking is stopped and, according to your ranking, you will earn rewards. With all this you will improve and expand your workshop to be able to put many more things in it. I also saw that there were crops but I haven't got there yet. A season system also exists, but it hasn't affected my game yet. Except sandstorms. They come from time to time and more ferocious monsters arise. A skill tree is available that will allow you to improve in combat, harvesting and crafting. The equipment will also ensure better performance.

Conclusion

I had not played My Time at Portia before starting my adventure. In the meantime I played it on the switch. The principle is the same in My Time at Sandrock, except that we are in the desert. Nevertheless, small improvements allow us to enjoy the game even more. For example, when we are in our workshop and want to build something, we do not need to have the resources on us. We will be able to recover them directly from the chests, whereas in My Time at Portia we must have them on hand. The skill system has also been overhauled. In short, it's all good for this game, which refines the winning formula of Portia, in a new universe. And I can only recommend it to you!
