This February update will also bring its share of patches including some small changes to the matchmaking system which seems to be having trouble finding opponents for you at the moment. Here are some questions answered by Lars Bakken, Lead Designer on Destiny:

What's going on ? Rumor has it that the Crucible is pretty intense right now. Lars : yes, it looks like it's a little ... how to put it ... quite hot? One of the main complaints we got in Year 1 was that you could end up in a lot of one-sided games in the Crucible. The long-term solution was to completely revise the system for finding similar skills, so that the games were tighter. As a stopgap measure, we added functions to avoid too easy victories as well as the rule of mercy, until we can really change things in The Taken King. So how do you measure our skills? Lars : We have top secret math systems that measure your performance and give you a potential fighter rating. This rating is constantly reassessed after each game and we usually use different skill tiers, depending on what mode you're playing. For example: Skill ratings for Iron Banner are not the same as for Domination. How long have you been doing this? Lars : With the release of the Taken King, we have included a completely revised skill assessment system that allows us to gather information to better prioritize the games. We started these scans in October, with Domination mode. Over time, we began to activate this system for other Crucible activities. In December, we activated it for all modes. Why haven't you told us? Lars : in order to see how it worked, we needed pure and objective data. It gave us some great results allowing us to learn how to improve it. Well, now that everyone is in the know, it might cause some debate. Are you going to keep doing this stuff? Lars : We'll definitely continue to make the Crucible for players better, but we've decided to be more transparent about the changes we make when we do. Do you promise to tell us next time? Lars : We promise. While we're at it, there are some changes coming soon to help reduce latency (what you call “lag”). We are in the process of analyzing the data right now, and we will take the necessary steps to improve the gaming experience So here's for this Bungie Weekly Update, see you next week to see what has been said about Destiny ! Are you looking forward to participating in upcoming events?
