FFXIV - The basics of recycling

You want to get started in the recycling but a question arises: which profession to choose? Here is a little guide to help you.

FFXIV - The basics of recycling

To recycle an object, you need the job partner and complete a quest: Benefits of Recycling. To access the quest, here are the prerequisites:

  • Complete the epic quest The master of materia
  • Have a job 30 level

FFXIV - The basics of recycling

Here you are ready to to recycle any item in your bag! Be careful, there are still some limits:

  • High-level items are not recyclable, with the exception of items made by craftsmen (except food & potions)
  • You cannot recycle a high level item with a level 1 skill. And yes, you will have to level up a bit!
  • You are limited to 350 skill points to be distributed among all of your professions. This makes 3 trades level 110 (knowing that a trade cannot be less than 1)
  • The recycling class required for an object is the same as the crimping or repair class

Recycling basics

When you recycle an item, you can only get one type of item that was used to craft it, or half-materia in addition to Aggregate Crystal Shard. You should know that if your item is of high quality it does not affect the chances of obtaining a half-materia. However, crimping an object increases the chances of recycling by 5 points, or 5%.

If you are interested in the larger semi-materia, then the three trades to choose from are Goldsmith, Blacksmith and Carpenter. You should know that  Recycling in Cook doesn't give any demi-materia, but can give swimsuits by recycling fish, so it will be a difficult choice if you want some.

What is the Half-Materia for

If you're wondering why Square Enix introduced recycling, it's simply to introduce a new component to crafting. Indeed, you have at your disposal four types of material:

  • Artifice: Obtained by recycling crafting equipment and used for new craft items and furniture.
  • Military Art: Obtained by recycling combat equipment and used to create new armor and weapons.
  • Clarity: they are obtained by recycling all the equipment and are not used in any recipe. You can only sell them to NPCs.
  • Rare Materia: Obtained by recycling primordial weapons or high level equipment.

New recipes are available to you, as well as new weapons for crafting.
