Prologue

Devastated by the Great War, the Sith Order accepts Force-sensitive slaves into its ranks. Most slaves are too weakened to overcome trials, but one of them demonstrates tremendous ingenuity and a formidable talent for the dark side. Reluctantly trained by Overseer Harkun, the slave sidekick brilliantly passes all trials, towers over a Dashade assassin named Khem Val, and outshines all other students, including a full-blooded Sith predestined for success. Despite Overseer Harkun's attempts to sabotage the slave's progress and preserve pure Sith heritage, the Acolyte manages to rise to the rank of Sith Inquisitor. The enigmatic Lord Zash makes the Inquisitor his apprentice, marking the beginnings of the former slave's rise to power.

Chapter 1: Kallig's Descendant

The Sith Inquisitor is under Lord Zash, a Sith master whose affable appearance hides sinister designs. At Zash's request, the Inquisitor sabotages and ends up destroying cyborg Darth Skotia, allowing Zash to take his place and become Darth Zash. She grants more power to her apprentice, and sends the Sith Inquisitor on a new mission: to find artifacts that once belonged to ancient Sith Tulak Hord. Once in possession of these artifacts, Darth Zash will perform a ritual that grants immense power to her and her apprentice.

The Sith Inquisitor travels the galaxy in search of the artifacts of Tulak Hord. Shortly after beginning his research, the Inquisitor awakens the Force Spirit of Aloysius Kallig, an ancient apparition who died millennia ago. Kallig makes contact with the Inquisitor and reveals to him that they share the same blood: the Inquisitor is the descendant of the deliquescent line of Kallig. The latter promises to help the Sith Inquisitor restore the honor of their lineage. Guided by this ghostly new ally, the Inquisitor searches for the remaining artifacts for Darth Zash, while consolidating his own shadow web.

Still slavishly followed by the assassin Dashade Khem Val, the Inquisitor returns to Darth Zash and interrupts him in the middle of a dark ritual. Zash welcomes his apprentice and reveals his terrible secret: her appearance as a young woman is only an illusion. The Sith Lord is actually very old and disfigured by the Dark Side, and she now plans to attain Eternal Youth by taking possession of the Inquisitor's body. But when the latter attacks Darth Zash, the Dashade Khem Val sabotages the ritual, accidentally trapping Zash's consciousness in his own body. His plan having failed, Darth Zash finds himself forced to serve the apprentice she intended to subjugate.

Chapter 2: Spirits of the Past

Once Darth Zash is subdued, the Sith Inquisitor inherits his shadow network and becomes a Sith Lord. But he almost loses it all after falling into a trap devised by Darth Thanaton, an extremely powerful and conservative Sith who can't stand the idea that a former slave could gain so much influence. In order to compete with Thanaton and his immeasurable power, the Inquisitor learns the Force March ritual and grows stronger by consuming the energy of Darth Andru, a furious Force spirit trapped in Dromund Kaas. Nourished by the power of the spirit, the Inquisitor confronts Thanaton, and is nearly overwhelmed by the dark sorcery of the Sith.

The Inquisitor is preparing his revenge. Kallig, the Inquisitor's ghostly ancestor, advises his heir to find more spirits for a second duel with Darth Thanaton. The Inquisitor travels to the most remote places in the galaxy, in order to collect the power of other Sith appearances. The Inquisitor meets new allies along the way, and even takes under his wing an apprentice, former Jedi padawan Ashara Zavros. Galvanized by the rage, power and passion of the ancient Sith, the Inquisitor once again challenges Darth Thanaton. Although the Inquisitor's new strength gives Thanaton a hard time, a sudden burst of Force energy ends the battle and throws the Inquisitor into darkness.

Chapter 3: Thanaton's Last Battle

The Sith Inquisitor is recovering from the violent explosion. Darth Thanaton takes the opportunity to escape, the allies of the Inquisitor being busy saving their master from the rubble. The explosion that nearly cost them their lives was caused by the power of the Spirits of the Force who took possession of the Inquisitor and proved unmanageable. The Inquisitor is now suffering from a serious illness which will get the better of him, if however Thanaton does not strike him (*) the fatal blow first ...

SWTOR - On the Road to KotFE: The Sith Inquisitor

The Inquisitor explores every corner of the galaxy in search of a cure. He then learns that Darth Thanaton is now part of the Dark Council and has become powerful enough to wipe him out of the galaxy. The Inquisitor eventually heals, and can finally control the Force Spirits to make them a weapon against Thanaton.

Darth Thanaton uses an ancient Sith rite, the "Kaggath", to challenge his opponent to a duel. Wielding the combined powers of the Sith spirits, the Inquisitor confronts Darth Thanaton on Corellia, triumphs over his allies, and forces Thanaton to flee for his own sake. It is on Korriban, in the chambers of the Dark Council, that the Sith Inquisitor ends up finding Thanaton. He finally annihilates the once mighty Sith, in front of the Dark Council. At the latter's request, the Inquisitor takes Thanaton's place, becomes Dark, and joins the Empire's most powerful Sith as a member of the Dark Council.
