SWTOR - The Future of SWTor

SWTOR - The Future of SWTor

With all the hustle and bustle of the launch and the impatience to gain access, there might be some information that didn't jump out at you.

James Ohlen, Game Director, posted an article on the next priorities and planned developments now that the game is live.

I am retranscribing his speech here:

Welcome to Star Wars ™: The Old Republic ™. It took years to create this game and our team are very proud of what they have accomplished. Since it is an online game, we will continue to develop it in the years to come. You can count on us to actively expand the game and service, to surprise and delight you. We will not only take your feedback into account, but we will also exceed your expectations for the evolution of Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Many of you have helped us make this game what it is today by participating in our testing programs. You've seen the game evolve throughout the year and have spoken out about the things you would like to see in the future.

The development of a massively multiplayer game never ceases, so we would like to take the opportunity to reveal some information about the content our team is working on for future updates. Our priorities have been, and will continue to be, based on feedback from players.

    • New content: we will be adding content to the galaxy continuously. These worlds will include Operations, Flashpoints, and single player content.
    • Guild Functions: Guides are important to the long term health of any MMORPG. We have an impressive list of guild functions: they are part of an effort that will probably never see an end. Guild banks are the first item we're going to put in our long list of guild functions. And finally, we want to let you know that we are also going to live up to our promise about the “guild motherships” that we have long referred to.
    • User Interface Customization: You like having a choice. We heard you! In SWTOR, it's all about choice. Being able to choose how you interact with an online game is something we think is very important. We will do our best to give you more control over the user interface. This is a priority for us.
    • PvP: We have an entire team dedicated to adding player-versus-player content. The PvP developers on our team are some of the most seasoned in the world. So far, very few players have seen, or even heard of, open-world PvP on Ilum - when you level up, expect to be blown away! In addition to this high-level PvP content, expect to see new Warzones and other PvP features appear on a regular basis.
    • Space combat: we will add space combat missions. We also have a special project underway to expand the game into space significantly ... We are keeping details under wraps for now.
    • Legacy System: The ability to select a last name for your character is just the start of something much bigger. Soon your experience of the Legacy system and the levels you earn will grant your characters access to powers, items, and other cool bonuses.
    • And more: we have an entire team of developers working on future content. We're all about Star Wars: The Old Republic right now, so expect some exciting new stuff.

We can really tell that we are as excited as you are about the launch of Star Wars: The Old Republic. Not only are we on the verge of releasing one of the biggest and most awesome games ever, but we're also excited to continue working on the game so that you, the fans, always have something going on. heroic and incredible to accomplish. Thanks for playing.
